RUSSELL VACATION LODGE RENTAL DESCRIPTION Ounuwhao Bed & Breakfast is alongside a grassed reserve bordered by century-old Norfolk pines, opposite picturesque Matauwhi Bay - a favourite mooring-place for yachts. Ounuwhao is a short two-minute drive or a casual 10-minute stroll to Russell village.
We offer superior B & B accommodation in four queen rooms, two with extra single bed - all with en-suite or private bathrooms. The two front rooms feature their own washstand and have French doors opening onto the verandah and conservatory area, with sea views.
All bathrooms are decorated with old-fashioned, hand-painted 'Georgian' tiles and have showers and toilets; two also have a claw-footed bath. Staying in our guestrooms will take you back to a different era. Each room is decorated individually, with hand-made patchwork quilts, brass beds, and fresh flowers from our garden. The lodge rooms ooze charm and offer a tranquil nights sleep, whilst every attention to detail is taken care of.
Enjoy the comfortable lounge, with tea and coffee available all day, television, magazines, a wide selection of books and the daily newspaper. Relax in our guestlounge or enjoy a book or cup of tea on our wide-sweeping verandahs, in the conservatory, or surrounded by flowers in our cottage garden, whilst enjoying the ever-changing water in the bay.
KNIGHT ROOM
This front bedroom has a lovely kauri washstand with hot/cold water over the basin, and has a private bathroom just steps across the hall with both claw footed bath and separate shower.
NURSERY ROOM
Queen bedroom with ensuite. This is the original Nursery of the homestead, with a little doorway connecting the maids room, now used as the ensuite bathroom. A smaller room, ideally suited to single travelers, but also accommodates a couple very neatly.
TOWNSEND ROOM
A delightful queen bedroom with beautiful bay window and great sea aspect, opening-out on to the front verandah with double French doors.
GUEST ROOM
A very large queen bedroom with extra single bed and ensuite bathroom with shower only. The guest room features a Kauri timber wash stand reminiscent of an era where important guests had a washbasin in their bedroom.
Cottage:
The cottage is set on its own section with two double bedrooms, one a king bedroom and the other a twin bedroom. The king room has a new ensuite bathroom with double basins, sunken bath and a separate shower. It has a pohutakawa theme in the tiles, embroidery in the towels and in the sand-blasted glass. The second bedroom has twin beds that can be made up into a s/king bed on request. It also has its own bathroom.
Garden Suite Holiday Accommodation
Featuring a super-king bed with ensuite, this suite detached from the main house with both peace and private from other guests. The large, roomy suite has a sofa and chairs for total relaxation. The bathroom features a spa bath with shower and a washstand. The kitchen area with bench, sink, fridge and microwave allows a simple snack to be prepared. It has no cooking facilities as such. The Garden Suite opens onto its own verandah with outdoor seating in the garden.
In Russell, there are numerous walks from ½ hour to flagstaff hill and over the hill to Tapeka, to Long beach and the new coastal track from Russell to Opua. If you want a spectacular view of Russell and surrounds why not take a stroll along our brand new elevated walkway from Okiato (near the ferry) to Russell. It's free and it's waiting!
