You will feel the stresses disappear as you drive through the gates and along the driveway surrounded by native bush. You have arrived at The Retreat in Upper Pukawa Bay, a 2 minute drive down to the fabulous Pukawa beach on Lake Taupo, a 45 minute drive to either Taupo City or Mount Ruapehu if skiing or doing the Tongariro Crossing walk, takes your fancy.This modern bach is tucked away with several other homes on a private 6 hectare native bush block. The bush is full of the sounds and sights of the native birds that are in the area. The bach is open plan and very comfortable with modern furnishings and convenient heat-pump. There is a large deck to sit and relax with your wine complete with BBQ.There is also a large shared pool on the property if you don't feel like going down to the beach. This place is awesome!!! We found it hard to leave:) & will be back for sure! Great place to stay you will not be disappointed highly recommend had a wonderful time. would recommend to anyone wishing to make this as a base for fishing and doing the alpine cross. Lovely atmosphere. we all had a good time at the bach thanks. The house was suitable for the children and Adults. I wish we could of stayed longer. It was great to have two bathrooms and the views were to die for even though I live with a view that overlooks the Cookstraight. Loved it, lived it and intend to use it again.

The farmstay is a 4 bedroom fully equipped, self-contained cottage with king, queen, and king single beds, bathroom, laundry, kitchen, lounge and dining rooms. Everything is supplied - linen, crockery, clean towels daily. Three bedrooms and a bathroom are also available in the main residence, a modern, brick home. There is also a Jacuzzi for your private use.

Situated half-way (200m) between the beach and the shopping centre, the Hawley's Guesthouse is ideal for those who enjoy extra space and comfort. The house was completed in mid 2000, replacing the old bach which the Hawleys owned for just on thirty years. The purpose built two double bedrooms share a spacious en-suite and take up all of the second storey at the rear of the house. The larger room has a balcony and a queen sized double bed, and the smaller room two single beds. A cot is available.

In the western wing of the lodge, hidden in the gardens, are the Wapiti and Sika studios - two generous rooms for couples. Guests enjoy private patios, full ensuites, beautiful linen and absolute privacy. The Wapiti studio offers a queen bed. Sika features a king double, which can be used as twin singles.
