Te Aroha, with its mountain, its bush walks, its geyser, spa baths, open geothermal pool and stylish domain featuring Edwardian public architecture is a popular destination for tourists both local and overseas. The Nunnery is centrally located and within easy strolling distance both of the township and of all Te Aroha’s tourist attractions. Built in 1977 to house the Sisters of Mercy, it sits on a large, well-tended section. In converting it to guest accommodation, we have retained the implicity of the building but have added all the mod-cons: air conditioning, a comfortable guest room with TV and cooking facilities, quality linen andfittings and generous off-street parking.A feature of the solid brick and tile building is the interior use of Rimu timber both in the trimmings and for the in-built furniture.Your hosts will be Paul and Denise Herbert, long-term residents of the Te Aroha region who bought The Nunnery from the Sisters of Mercy in November 2008 and converted it to its current use.The Nunnery offers a wheel chair friendly, fully independent studio unit. We call it The Pohutukawa Suite owing to it having Te Aroha’s largest Pohutukawa tree outside. In the main accommodation wing The Nunnery offers 3 double bedrooms and two single bedrooms.

Set atop Mount Rataroa, just one hour’s drive south of Auckland towards the Coromandel, sits Umoya Lodge. This remote and idyllic luxury lodge draws its name from the Zulu word ‘umoja’, meaning soul, spirit and breath. True to its name, this is a place of absolute tranquility, breathtaking scenery and luxurious escapism. Surrounded by 35 acres of native bush, the Lodge's spectacular elevated position affords both stunning sea views to the Coromandel and Pacific Ocean as well as across rustic New Zealand farmland as far as the eye can see. As you wind your way up through the peaceful wood pigeon dell on arrival, you feel blissfully transported... as though you've discovered a well kept secret. The Lodge's architecture is spacious and sophisticated, with the LUXURY SUITE separated from the main Lodge by way of a generous entry foyer and lotus pond, and THE RETREAT in a completely separate unit adjacent to the Main Lodge. Guests can relax in the main Lodge or enjoy the peace and seclusion of their accommodation, where every attention to detail has been made. And as exclusive guests at the Lodge at any one time, your service will always be considerate and attentive.
